I’m keeping it simple with just one image for today’s installment of LWT. I figured this was best since the Green Goblin isn’t really one for having the paparazzi get all up in his face after long day spent duking it out with Spider-man. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty sure that’s not a pumpkin-flavored muffin he’s got in left hand… =^_^;;=

Sadly, I had originally planned on doing a classy pic involving Abomination, but I didn’t have a chair/table combination big enough. Also, I don’t know how to fold a regular size tie after all these years,so the thought of attempting a make a minature one just sort of seemed like a losing proposition… =^_^;;=

I don’t often delve in the world of mainstream American comics anymore for variety of reasons. I’m sure problems such as a consistent lack of tangible character progression, an endless milking of fanboy wallets with excessively large multi-comic crossovers, and the frequent use of no-talent hacks entire story arcs all helped play a role in my decision to leave that world behind, but mostly I think I left because I fell in love with manga. As young man, manga opened my eyes to a whole new world of storytelling that I hadn’t known existed while simultaneously blowing my mind with a level of artistry that I had never before seen portrayed in any Marvel or DC comic. Now, years later, Marvel has finally hit upon a formula that is slowly, but surely, reawakening the long dormant comic book nerd inside of me I left rotting in an unmarked grave so many, many years ago.

It all started last year when Marvel announced that it would be collaborating with renowned Japanese toy maker Kotobukiya on a new line of fine art statues featuring some of their most iconic female characters. Dubbed the “Marvel x Bishoujo” series, this new line of figures takes classic Marvel ladies such as Rogue, Scarlet Witch and the Phoenix and reimagines them in the bishoujo (pretty girl) style of Japanese manga art. Six figures have been released or announced so far and every single figure has been absolutely drop dead gorgeous.

Don’t believe me? Hit the jump for sample pics and info about these beautiful figures!

It’s been roughly seven months since I last heard anything meaningful concerning the adaptation of The Walking Dead comic book series into a TV series. I guess AMC just got a little sidetracked making shows about hard drinking 70′s ad execs and terminally ill meth dealers. It’s okay. I’m not mad. I mean, it’s not like I’ve been waiting anxiously for the opportuntiy to watch the zombie apocolypse play out in hour long chunks for my amusement or anything…

Anyway, judging by the slow trickle of announcements that have come out over the past few weeks, it seems that AMC has finally decided to get serious about this whole zombie thing that they’ve twiddling their thumbs over for the last seven months. First, they announced that they had chosen their first official cast member for the series. Sadly, it’s wasn’t really a major announcement since they just picked some dude named Jon Bernthal to play the main character’s best friend, Shane. Shane is really not that big of character in the comic series, but maybe the show’s Academy Award winning writer and director, Frank Darabont, has something different planned for him in the series.

About a week later, AMC announced they had ordered a total of six episodes of the series. This includes the original order for the series pilot as well as five additional episodes. The first episode isn’t even supposed to begin filming until June, so hopefully this is a good sign that AMC is feeling pretty confident that the series will be another success. Add in the fact that the zombie lovin’ folks over at KNB, who have provided the special effects for films like Land of the Dead in the past, will be doing all the F/X work for the show and it looks like The Walking Dead may be dressed to impress when it finally debuts in October.

*update*

It was announced yesterday that Andrew Lincoln has been chosen to play Rick Grimes, the main character for the series. I checked out his body of work and failed to come up with anything that I could recognize him in. Sadly, I guess I’ll have to wait until October to see if he has what it takes to play the zombie fighting Rick Grime. =T_T=

Okay, maybe it’s not quite that bad, but I’m sure I have no doubt nerds across the country nearly swallowed their tongues when they heard that Disney was buying Marvel comics. As the details of the merger continue to trickly out, I believe it’s just a matter of time before we see angry mobs armed with pitchforks and torches take the streets. Personally, I’m just waiting for Disney to announce that the next Kingdom Hearts game will now include Wolverine as playable character. I mean, the marketing gurus over Marvel have managed to shoehorn him into just about everything else, so why not into a Disney game. Better yet, I’m sure Wolvie will soon be appearing in a whole slew of Disney animated features, probably with titles like “Wolverine’s Big Day Out” or “Wolverine and the Seven Mutant Dwarfs.” ZOMG, the possiblities are just endless!

In related news, for those seeking a bit of humor in all of this, I suggest checking out the #marveldisney twitter topic. It makes for some hilarious reading with the funniest thing I’ve seen to date being the Disney memo to Marvel. It’s worth a look just for the pic of his pants off to better fit in with Donald Duck.

That’s all for now. Feel free to engage in nerd rage in the comments section =^_-=

According to an article posted on ICv2 this morning, AMC has purchased the rights to make a TV series based on the zombie comic book series, The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman. The series, which follows the day to day struggles of a small band of everyday people trying to stay alive in the wake of a zombie apocalypse, would be written, directed and produced by three time oscar winner, Frank Darabont.

No word yet on when casting or production will begin, but it’s safe to assume that zombie nerds like my wife and I are suitably stoked to see this project come to fruition. Despite the pedigree of the individuals involved in the project so far, I still have deep reservations concerning AMC’s potential handling of the dark, violent and extremely gory content that is prevalent through out the series.

Hey, everyone. i should be back to updateing the website on a (semi) daily basis by Tuesday. I ended up having to purchase a new laptop after all (grr…I’m wiped out now) and I’ve spent the last several days trying to get used to this whole Windows Vista thing that came with it. To say it’s been a pain in the ass getting everything set up the way I like it would be a understatement. I’ve spent the majority of my weekend trying to cleaning all the bloatware out of the system so that it actually runs like it’s supposed to. Grrr. A whole weekend wasted because some idiot thinks that people actually need or want all the crap that they ship these things with. A pox on them, I say! A POX!!!!

Anyway, since I don’t have any new reviews done yet, I decided I’d share this delightfully wrong superhero pic I found over at My[confined]Space You can find several more here.

See ya on Tuesday!
