Read First Six Chapters of Bokurano Manga for Free. Cry Yourself to Sleep Afterwards.

Got a press release last week reminding me of the upcoming retail release of the Bokurano: Ours manga to store shelves next week. The best part is that for you cheap bastards out there who are too good to actually pay for your manga, you can read the first volume for free on VIZ’s online manga website, SigIKKI. Be forewarned though, if the manga is anything like the anime series it’s most definitely not a series for people who despise crying like a little girls.

To learn more about the series, hit the jump to read the full press release from VIZ. To go ahead and begin reading the free version of the manga, just head on over to SigIkki.com.

VIZ media Drops the Zomb-Bomb Today with Release of BIOMEGA

I wasn’t really sure if I would be interested in this manga when I first saw it on a list of upcoming releases last month. The plot summary piqued my interest with it’s talk of zombies in a high tech sci-fi setting, but the overall story premise didn’t exactly sound ground breaking by any means. Still, after seeing the stunning cover art and checking out a sample pages I tracked down on the web, I do believe I’ll probably be picking this title up the next time I visit my local bookstore.

VIZ Releases List of New Manga Titles for First Half of Coming Year

VIZ sent out a press release on Tuesday listing a number of new manga series due to hit store shelves over the next six months. Personally, only two of the releases caught my attention. One was Bokurano: Ours and the other was Library Wars: Love & War. I’ve seen a lot of the Bokurano anime series and I’m eager to see how the manga compares with the dark, sci-fi drama found in the television series. I don’t know much about the Library Wars manga, but it’s also been turned into an anime series, so hopefully means that it’s Fahrenheit 451-esque premise plays out well enough to be of interest to me.

Oh, I guess I should also mention that VIZ announced a new Yuu Watase manga series as well, titled Arata; The Legend. Considering Fushigi Yugi got milked so hard for so long that by the end there was nothing left inside it except but bitter rancid butter, I’m sure this manga has a long and bright future ahead it >:(

Spotlight: The Legend of Koizume – Reform Without Wasted Draws

The Legend of Koizumi – Reform without Wasted Draws (Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku), is an awesome anime and manga that pits world leaders against each other in high stakes mahjong battles to settle diplomatic disputes. Originally the brainchild of manga creator, Hideki Ohwada, The Legend of Koizume first appeared in a mahjong themed manga magazine. Since then, it has been growing in popularity ever since due to it’s outrageous humor and scathing political satire. The first volume of the anime OVA is set to officially debut in February. If you can’t wait that long, I suggest checking out manga scanalations of vol. 1 and 2 that are available via a variety online websites.

Original Spice and Wolf Cover Art Uglied Up to Suit American Tastes.

Spice and Wolf - Guess which one your getting?

In move that can only be described as “indescribable,” the magazine and book publishing company, Yen Press, has chosen not to use the original Japanese cover art for their upcoming release of the Spice and Wolf light novel series by Isuna Hasekura. Instead , the book will use artwork created specifically for the American marker. In an apparent effort to appeal to a broader fantasy audience, the new artwork ditches the manga style artwork original used in favor of photograph of a nude woman with a badly photoshopped wolf’s tale and buckteeth. After careful examination of the new cover, I have yet to turn up any dragons or unicorns in the in the background, but I’m sure there’s still time to add them in sometime between now and the book’s release date. I mean they already have the generic fantasy font down pat…

According to the original post at Yen Press, all the original interior illustrations have been left intact and the only artwork that has been raped changed is the cover art. In an unexpected bit of generosity, Yen Press has magnanimously chosen to extend an olive branch to the more hardcore Horo fans out there by making a limited edition dust jacket containing the original cover art available to them around the same time as the book’s release. The catch is that you have to buy a copy of the December issue of the Yen Plus magazine if you want it. Early reports from the field describe the move as being similar to having a big fat guy crap on your chest and then hand you a roll of toilet paper afterwards. Sure, it cleans up most of the mess, but you’re never going to be able to forget that it happened in the first place =-_-;;=
